Remembering Dennis Stauffer

Posted on: January 22nd, 2012 by EricHoward

This past week, I lost a friend and colleague in Dennis Stauffer of Stauffer Percussion. Dennis was known around the world for his craftsmanship of Phattie, Black Label, Cocktail Drums, as well as his other artisan works with custom carved solid shell snare drums. Many of you have been to a South 85 show and have seen my transparent coke bottle green Phattie acrylic drums. Dennis built that kit for me back in 2010 and naturally it has become a priceless kit for me now. He was actually starting on a new kit for me that I had hoped to debut in April, unfortunately, that won’t happen. Please take a moment to stop by his website www.staufferpercussion.com and see for yourself what a tremendous craftsman he was. Like his Facebook page too! https://www.facebook.com/staufferpercussion

As with many tragedies, often there follows a miracle or some other act of grace. Dennis was able, in his final moments to steer his car and his 1 year old son, Roan, out of the jaws of fate. He gave his life to save his son. Can’t think of a more honorable way to go out.

Remembering Dennis!

Best Seat in the House

First Blog entries on the new South 85 site are going to be titled Best Seat in the House. If you have ever played the drums behind a high energy band you will probably agree. Look for color commentary and other shinanigans from me as the year progresses. See you at the show.
